Unboxing & First Impressions

Inspect the Package

When your Trezor® arrives, verify the tamper-evident seals and packaging. Official shipments should include the device, a USB cable, recovery card, and documentation. If anything appears tampered with, contact official Trezor support immediately using the links above rather than proceeding.

Identify Model & Firmware

Check the model printed on the box (e.g., Trezor Model One or Model T) and the serial number inside the device menu after power-up. Before connecting, visit the official Start page for the recommended steps and download the official wallet at Trezor Wallet.

Connect Carefully

Use the supplied USB cable and connect to a trusted computer. Avoid public or unknown USB hubs. If possible, update your computer’s OS and run any recommended security tooling before connecting. Recovery Seed: Creation & Safety

Write It Down

When the device shows the recovery words, write them on the provided card (or a secure metal backup). Do not take photos or store the seed on a connected device or cloud service. Once recorded, test the backup by using the device’s optional recovery check.

Keep Multiple Backups

Consider keeping two geographically separated copies (for example, safe deposit box + home safe). Never share your seed with anyone. Official support will never ask for it.

PIN & Passphrase — Layered Protection

Set a PIN

The PIN prevents physical access from being enough to drain funds. Choose a PIN you can remember but not trivial to guess. The Trezor device will scramble input on the device screen so observers can't easily deduce the PIN.

Optional Passphrase

Advanced users may enable a passphrase (a 25th word effectively) which creates a hidden wallet. This adds strong protection but also increases complexity—if you forget the passphrase you may permanently lose access to funds. Use official documentation to understand tradeoffs.

Verify Addresses on Device
